Michael Davenport, bass clarinet, and Kimberly Davenport, piano (Duo Alea) perform Ivana Loudova's "Air" for bass clarinet and piano (1972). Loudova (b. 1941) is an important Czech composer of her generation. She began her musical studies in Prague at the Conservatory and at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, and later studied in Paris with Olivier Messiaen and Andre Jolivet. Her prolific output includes much vocal music, as well as orchestral and chamber works. She currently teachers composition at the Academic of Music and Dramatic Arts in Prague. This work was dedicated to and premiered by Due Boemi, the Czech bass clarinet/piano duo of Josef Horak and Emma Kovarnova.
